The mission of Walgreens Community-Based Pharmacy Residency Program is to develop
confident, effective, and innovative community pharmacy practitioners. Graduates of
this program will be prepared for clinical and leadership positions in the community
and specialty pharmacy setting. The program is primarily based at the Walgreens Local
Specialty Pharmacy in Miami, within the medical building associated with a Federally
Qualified Healthcare Center. This unique setting serves HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis patients
for their health care, education, and wellness needs. Pharmacists at this site work
closely with an interdisciplinary healthcare team servicing roughly 1,000 patients
a month to optimize clinical outcomes. In addition, the resident will receive training
at other nearby Walgreens Local Specialty Pharmacies that offer clinical services
to oncology, transplant, and fertility patients. Graduates of this program will gain
insight to medication management, medication reconciliation, and educational and behavioral
counseling. These skills will enable the resident to achieve their professional goals
while providing compassionate care for members of the community and contribute to
advancement of the pharmacy healthcare profession.
This residency is offered in partnership with NSU's Barry and Judy Silverman College of Pharmacy and will provide the resident the opportunity to develop academic skills by acting

Outside of pharmacy, he enjoys traveling, exploring new places, playing soccer and tennis, and spending time with family and friends.
PGY-1 Community-Based Pharmacy Practice
My name is Katelyn Grillo, and I am a recent graduate of the Nova Southeastern University Barry and Judy Silverman College of Pharmacy (NSU COP) and currently a PGY-1 Resident at NSU Pharmacy. I obtained my bachelor's degree in Marine Biology from Florida International University, where my senior seminar research focused on pharmacognosy—the study of medications derived from natural sources such as animals and plants. This research allowed me to merge my passion for marine biology with pharmacy, shaping my professional future. During my time at NSU COP, I was honored to be inducted into the Rho Chi academic honor society, where I enjoyed tutoring my peers. My professional interests include Psychiatry, particularly substance use disorders, Ambulatory Care, and Academia. I am extremely excited to learn as much as I can from this residency to practice at the top of my license and continue giving back to the community. In my spare time, I enjoy going to the beach, cooking, and spending time with my dog and the elderly cat I rescued.
My name is Lianette Veliz, Pharm.D., I graduated from Miami Dade College with a Bachelor's in Biopharmaceutical Sciences, where I discovered my passion for pharmacy and teaching. I recently received my Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Nova Southeastern University's Barry and Judy Silverman College of Pharmacy. My current practice interests include consultant pharmacy, academia, and ambulatory care. In my spare time, I enjoy going to the movies and taking nature walks. I am thrilled and honored to have been selected to be a part of the NSU team, and I look forward to continuing my professional growth under the guidance of an excellent team of faculty.
PGY-1 Pharmacy
My name is Camille P. Maldonado González, and I am currently pursuing the PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency with NSU and Sistema de Salud Menonita. I was born in Bayamón and raised in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico. I completed my bachelor's degree in human biology at the University of Puerto Rico, Bayamón Campus. During that time, I noticed an interest in pharmacy during that time, so I decided to apply and complete my graduate studies. I pursued my Doctor of Pharmacy degree at the University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus. While I was in Pharmacy School, I was very active in student organizations and directive boards. As a pharmacist, I value and recognize the importance of our role in patient care. Therefore, I am eager to continue learning during this year of additional training. On the other hand, in my free time, I like to spend time with my family and loved ones, enjoy outside activities, and play the piano.
Karla A. Rivera is a recent NSU College of Pharmacy graduate from the Puerto Rico Regional Campus and one of their two PGY-1 residents in collaboration with the Mennonite Healthcare System. Through tutoring and her advanced pharmacy practice experiences, she developed a passion for academia and great insight into the clinical role of a pharmacist; this fostered her desire to pursue continued education through residency. Outside of pharmacy, she enjoys photographing nature and spending quality time with her loved ones. Karla hopes that this residency will help her build upon her interests and equip her with the tools necessary to serve her community.
PGY-2 Psychiatric Pharmacy Practice
Sian Clements, a Miami Beach native, earned her undergraduate degree from Miami Dade College and her Pharm.D. from Nova Southeastern University (NSU) in 2023. Following this, she completed a PGY-1 community pharmacy residency at NSU and is currently one of two PGY-2 psychiatric pharmacy residents at the university. Her residency practice site is located at South Florida State Hospital in Pembroke Pines. Sian has a keen interest in psychiatric pharmacy, particularly in mental health within the community setting. Outside of her professional pursuits, she enjoys dining out, watching movies at home, and caring for her elderly dog, Nugget.
My name is Christian Grillo, and I am a graduate from NSU’s College of Pharmacy, and currently one of the PGY-2 residents in Psychiatric Pharmacy Practice. Before pharmacy school, I obtained my Bachelor's degrees in Biology and in Interdisciplinary Studies. I was also a chemistry teacher at City of Hialeah Educational Academy, which helped build my love for academia and teaching. During pharmacy school, my passion for academia continued to expand, but I developed new-found interests, particularly within Psychiatry and research. I hope to further my career in order to continue serving those patients who are critically underserved within our community, particularly the mentally ill.
