Michelle A. Clark, Ph.D. is the Dean of the Barry and Judy Silverman College of Pharmacy, Nova Southeastern University.

A member of the College of Pharmacy since 2001, Dr. Clark has been an integral part of the College, serving in a variety of key leadership roles while continuing her research and service on external, university, and college committees. Dr. Clark has served the College as Interim Dean, Executive Associate Dean, Interim Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Education, and Chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Dr. Clark is a visionary leader, finding innovative ways to enhance the College’s program offerings and student successes. She was instrumental in the establishment of the College’s Ph.D. program in Pharmaceutical Sciences that matriculated its first students in 2010. Dr. Clark developed the Master of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences that graduated its first cohort in 2019. Dr. Clark is passionate about creating innovative educational opportunities within the College and has expanded these opportunities since her tenure as Dean. Dr. Clark increased the College’s scholarship corpus by over 400% and annually awards over $850,000 in scholarships/tuition discounts. Under her leadership, the College exceeded fundraising/research goals for student scholarships, cancer research, and federal grants. As the Dean, she works inclusively with college constituents providing students the NSU “Edge” allowing them to stand out in their chosen path. As founding member and faculty advisor of the Student National Pharmaceutical Sciences Association and a dissertation advisor for Ph.D. students, Dr. Clark serves as a mentor to all NSU’s Barry and Judy Silverman College of Pharmacy students.

Dr. Clark is an innovative and successful scholar. She has been awarded support for her research efforts, as principal investigator, and collaborator. She has received over US$1.5 million from agencies such as the National Institutes of Health to support her research and research within her College. She has authored and contributed to more than 80 peer-reviewed scientific papers, peer-reviewed abstracts, and book chapters. Her research is in cardiovascular research, specifically determining the role of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS) in the control of hypertension and other types of cardiovascular diseases. As a proponent of promoting the pharmacist’s role in health care, Dr. Clark focuses her research activities on pharmacy and health-related issues for underserved and underrepresented communities. She involves students in her research, providing opportunities that allow them to develop skills in leadership and scientific inquiry.

Prior to joining the College, Dr. Clark was a researcher at Wake Forest University in the Hypertension and Vascular Disease Center. She received her Ph.D. and M.S. specializing in Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics from the College of Medicine at the University of South Florida.

Overall research goal is to better understand the molecular mechanisms involved in blood pressure regulation, so that improved therapeutic interventions can be developed to treat hypertension and other cardiovascular diseases.

My research is in the area of pharmacology and neuroscience, specifically determining the role of the central and peripheral renin-angiotensin system (RAS) in the control of hypertension and other types of cardiovascular diseases. More recently, the role of the RAS in other diseases has been shown. Thus, I am also collaborating with the Deth and Trivedi laboratory to study the interaction of the Dopamine system and the RAS in Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
