Program Design

 

There are three required components to complete the APhA Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery certificate training program:

1. Self-Study Component 12 hours: The first component of the APhA’s Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery certificate training program (14th Edition) is the completion of the 12-hour self-study. This component must be completed prior to attending the 8-hour, live program. Registered participants will receive instructions about how to access the APhA Dashboard and the enrollment code after successfully registering and paying the program fees. If you do not receive this information within 24 hours of registering, please contact our office.
   
   The self-study learning activity is designed to ensure that all participants understand vaccine-preventable diseases and the role of pharmacists as vaccine advocates and administrators. There are five learning modules that present in-depth information on immunology, practice implementation, and legal and regulatory issues as noted below, with appropriate references to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) resource publication, Epidemiology and Prevention of Vaccine-Preventable Disease. The self-study program includes a self-assessment test and real-life case studies that are designed to help reinforce and evaluate participants’ understanding of key information and concepts.    Please note that you will not be admitted into the October 30th, 2026 Workshop until you have completed the Self-Study, passed ALL of the module quizzes, and we have received the electronic notification from APhA confirming your passing the of the self-assessment modules, which take approximately 12-15 hours to complete.
   
   

2. Zoom Live Presentation (October 30, 2026) 8 hours:

   The second component of the APhA’s Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery certificate training program (14th Edition) is an active learning seminar focusing on pharmacy practice implementation. The live training seminar is based on the experience of practitioners involved in immunization advocacy and administration. The training seminar reinforces and expands on the self-study program and addresses areas such as immunization needs, legal and regulatory issues, and injection-technique training. Participants will be expected to practice giving intramuscular and subcutaneous injections.

   The APhA Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery Program will be made available to you via a streaming service using Zoom Video Conferencing for its live program dates. The program agenda will remain the same with the exception of the Skills Training and Assessment portion. Registration and check-in will be from 7:30 a.m. with the lectures beginning promptly at 8:00 a.m. The lecture portion of the training is tentatively scheduled to end at 5:00 p.m.; however, this timeframe can vary due to the interaction between the lecturers and the students. 3. Injection Technique Assessment: 

   Participants will be required to complete the Skills Training and Assessment. This assessment is the proper demonstration of administering a sterile injection into a person and must be completed to pass the program and receive the certificate of completion. This must be completed after the live, 12-hour program. This portion of the training will be completed remotely and under the supervision of a certified immunizer by appointment. 

   The injection assessment must be completed on a live person and this person will need to sign-off that he/she received the sterile injection. This person must be at least 18 years and consent to receiving the sterile injection. The person receiving the injection does not need to be a pharmacist – only a willing participant. The certified immunizer and injectee cannot be the same person and must both be located in room at the same time.  The review of the injection cannot occur via a video streaming or recorded platform. It must be live and in-person.  

   A key component to successfully passing the course is the administration of a sterile injection under the review of a licensed immunizer.  To be able to complete this step you will need the proper supplies, see list below. You will have the option to obtain these on your own. 

    

 

Completing the Injection Assessment Form:

The injection assessment form is required to prove you properly completed the assessment portion of the program. You must submit this form to your APhA training course within 30 days of your live seminar. Once submitted, please notify our APhA liaison at ez116@nova.edu.The program will not be considered complete until you submit the required forms, receive the attendance code and claim your credit within the APhA Dashboard.

Learning Objectives

 Upon completion of this self-study, zoom live presentation and self-injection technique assessment, pharmacists should be able to:                                                          

• Describe the pharmacists' role in immunization healthcare and their legal and regulatory requirements in providing these immunization services.
• Discuss the impact of vaccines on public health.
• Review vaccine-preventable diseases and the vaccines used to prevent them.
• Discuss strategies for improving immunization rates.
• Prepare pharmacists in reading an immunization schedule in their selection of appropriate patient vaccines  
• Prepare pharmacists to safely administer patient vaccines via subcutaneous, intramuscular, intranasal, and intradermal routes.
• Describe resources that provide updated immunization informational services.

 

Live Seminar Learning Objectives 

At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:

• Describe strategies for increasing immunization rates, including physician collaborations, community level activities, and immunization coalition activities
• Describe pharmacy operations and a process for administering vaccines in various pharmacy practice settings
• Evaluate patient histories and make patient-specific recommendations based on the appropriate immunization schedule
• Demonstrate effective strategies for communicating with patients who have concerns about vaccines
• Describe current evidence regarding vaccine safety
• Recognize the signs and symptoms of adverse reactions that can occur after vaccination
• Describe procedures for management of patients with adverse reactions to vaccination that constitute an emergency
• List the steps for administering currently available intranasal and intradermal vaccines
• Demonstrate appropriate intramuscular and subcutaneous injection techniques for adult immunization
  
  

Live Seminar Program Schedule

 

Fees

The registration fee for this 20-hour certificate program is $395 for pharmacists.

Once you pay the registration fee, an enrollment link will be sent within 72 hours to the e-mail address found on the registration form. Follow the instructions on the enrollment link to access the CPE activity.

Refund Policy

A refund may be requested via e-mail to carsten@nova.edu before the participant has enrolled on the APhA website for the home study portion of the course.

Your registration fee minus $145 administrative fee will be credited to the card used to enroll. There can be no refund once you have redeemed your enrollment link.

There can be no partial refund once you have redeemed your enrollment link or let it expire. Your enrollment link expires on the day the live via zoom workshop is presented.

Please be advised that this program is subject to postponement or cancellation if the required minimum number of registrants is not met and at least 10 days prior to the scheduled date if the class is canceled, we will automatically transfer your registration fee to the next activity offering.

Accreditation Information

APhA's Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery is approved for a total of 20.0 contact hours of continuing pharmacy education (CPE) credit (2.0 CEUs). The ACPE Universal Activity Numbers (UAN) for this activity are listed below:

• Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery Self-study is approved for 12 hours (1.2 CEU) of CPE credit. ACPE UAN 0202-0000-26-187-H06-P
• Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery Live Seminar is approved for 8 hours (0.8 CEU) of CPE credit. ACPE UAN 0202-0000-26-205-L06-P/0202-9999-26-205-L06-P

Florida pharmacists seeking general continuing education credits should self-report all earned continuing education (CE) credits for this program to CE Broker using the above APhA UAN numbers.

Successful candidates must complete the home-study component with a minimum grade of 70%. The candidate will receive 12 contact hours of CPE credit (1.2 CEU).

Successful completion of the zoom live session on October 30th includes attending the full day seminar, successfully completing & uploading the injection technique assessment, completing the online assessment with a minimum grade of 70%, and providing course assessment. The candidate will receive 8 contact hours of CPE credit (0.8 CEU).

Successful candidates will achieve the Immunization Delivery Certificate based upon passing both the home and zoom live components.

To obtain credit for Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery, complete the home study activities, complete and pass both self-study and final assessments with a grade of 70% or better, attend the live seminar, successfully complete the injection technique assessment, complete the evaluation, and CLAIM credit. To obtain credit, the Learner must CLAIM credit once each component is completed. Once credit is claimed, Transcripts of CPE will be available online within 24 hours on the Learner’s CPE Monitor profile at https://nabp.pharmacy/. The Certificate of Achievement will be available online upon successful completion of the necessary activity requirements on the participant’s APhA My Training page at www.pharmacist.com.

You will have two opportunities to complete successfully each of the two assessments. Please note that you will not be permitted to submit the assessment a third time. All assessment questions are randomized.
