Consultant Re-Certification Conference – General CE Credit

The goal of this program is to address the knowledge and skills needs of Florida pharmacists aspiring to become consultant licensure practitioners as set forth in the Consultant Pharmacist Education Requirements within Florida Regulation 64B and Chapter 465 of the Florida Statutes. The program is designed to enhance and develop the skills and knowledge of Florida Pharmacy leadership. The conference can also be used by consultants towards their renewal (recertification) of the continuing pharmacy education requirement (24 hours every two years) and for Pharmacists needing General CE Credits for License Renewal.

*Note that this program should not be attended by licensed consultants twice within the same renewal period. It reflects in CE Broker as attending the same program twice, and no credit is given for the second program. Consultant Recertification can also be achieved by attending our May and November Conferences.

General Event Information

Each speaker has their own set of objectives. Upon completion of this session, participants should be better able to:

Discuss the relationship that the new Collaborative Practice Agreement has with the Consultant License.
Explain the state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to collaborative practice agreements.
Describe the policies and procedures for maintaining written collaborative practice agreement records for regimen review, documentation, and communication.
Describe the policies and procedures for performing a drug regimen review.
Discuss the documentation of drug regimen reviews in a collaborative practice agreement.
Discuss the policies and procedures for communicating findings to the appropriate individuals or groups.
Outline a facility review.
Describe the areas appropriate for evaluation.
Discuss the documentation of evaluations.
Describe the reporting of evaluations.
Describe how to conduct a patient assessment.
Explain the responsibilities for ordering and evaluating laboratory or clinical tests.
Explain the professional responsibilities involved in the administration of medicinal drugs in an institution.

The Consultant Licensure Course is designed to prepare the pharmacist who is actively interested in advancing the profession of consultant pharmacy with the necessary professional and administrative responsibilities as outlined by the Board of Pharmacy in Rule 64B16 and Chapter 465. The course is a twenty-hour experience. One can apply for the Consultant License immediately after passing the course exam the following Monday when receiving the statement. For the consultant pharmacist seeking recertification, this program can serve as a refresher course and review of the responsibilities stated above.

Prior to attending the February 7 and 8, 2026 program, the consultant licensure candidate will need to complete a five (5) hour pre-course work. This assignment will be provided to participants prior to attending the live Zoom course.

Twelve to fifteen percent of the questions on the final examination will come from this pre-course component. The live course is designed to prepare the new practitioner academically and to offer real-world experiences from experts in the art of becoming a professional pharmacy consultant.

The primary focus of the course will be on professional and administrative responsibilities, skills, and policy and procedure development. The coursework will be presented mostly by Florida-licensed consultant pharmacists who have extensive experience in the areas of law, ALF, surgical centers, mentoring, managed care, behavioral health, LTC, CPA, and acute care institutional settings. Faculty will utilize live Zoom lectures with online polling and chat rooms to create dialogue with participants.

Successful candidates will pass an exam (70% or greater) given at the end of the program on Sunday, 3:00 p.m., September 21, 2025. This test will be given online; instructions will be provided during the weekend of the exam.

Post-program, participants will be expected to complete the "Consultant Pharmacist Application" and mail the Statement of Completion (provided by NSU) with the application fee to the Board of Pharmacy to be eligible to receive their consultant license. Consultants will need to address the new “fingerprinting” requirement by the Board of Pharmacy.

Accreditation

NSU's Barry and Judy Silverman College of Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of Continuing Pharmacy Education.

Part One, Home Study Pre-Program is for Initial Consultant Candidates Only. This home study is required for initial consultant candidates and is approved for 5.0 contract hours of continuing pharmacy education credits.

For Initial Candidates to obtain full course credit they must review the four video courses outlined in the Part One schedule, attend Part Two and Three, pass the course exam on Sunday (questions are from Part 1, 2 & 3) and answer the evaluation requests from Part One, Two and Three.

For General CE candidates: take Part 2 & 3. Up to 14 CE hours can be obtained.

The provider (NSU's Barry and Judy Silverman College of Pharmacy) will post all successful credits by February 15, 2026. Participants are responsible to assure their credits are posted. NABP allows sixty days to post all credits, however, CE Broker allows only 30 days to post credits. Therefore, participants should verify their credits by March 1, 2026.

The Consultant Licensure program has been approved by the Florida Board of Pharmacy for the Initial Consultant Pharmacist certificate. This program has also been approved for Consultant Re-Certification. The Provider, NSU's Barry and Judy Silverman College of Pharmacy, will report all earned continuing education (CE) credits for consultants (Re-Certification) for this program to CE Broker for those pharmacists who provide their correct pharmacist license numbers. Consultants can achieve up to 14 recertification hours.

*Note that credit earned for the (Initial) Consultant Pharmacist Licensure certificate cannot be used a second time for general credit. The 20 credit hours earned for the Initial Consultant Licensure are to be used specifically for applying for that license

As a reminder, this program should not be attended by licensed consultants twice within the same renewal period for recertification hours. It reflects in CE Broker as attending the same program twice and no credit given for the second program. This is the renewal cycle of January 2025 - December 2026.
