Admitted Students

Students entering the Doctor of Pharmacy Program are required to submit a Level I background check. NSU Silverman College of Pharmacy has partnered with Certiphi Screening Inc. to complete the background check process. It is beneficial to have Certiphi Screening Inc. as the provider because it is a secure and unified way for PharmCAS-participating schools to screen applicants applying to multiple schools.

To begin the background check process:

• You will receive a code from studentedition@certiphi.com. If you did not receive the email with the code, please notify the Admissions Counselor. The code is generated through PharmCAS.
• If you are a deferred student, you will not receive an email with a code. Please contact the Student Services personnel at your campus.
• Once the code is received, click on the following link to access the Application Station and enter the code you received in the Application Station code field: https://applicationstation.certiphi.com
• If you have not already created an account for yourself, click the "SIGN UP NOW" button to do so. Otherwise, click the "SIGN BACK IN" button to log in using your Username and Password. Enter your full name and date of birth, Social Security Number (If applicable), current address, phone number, and email address.
• Follow the instructions on the Application Station website to complete your Background Investigation Consent forms.
• If you previously completed a background check for this admissions cycle through Certiphi for another university, you will not be required to repeat the process.
• The background check process must be completed ASAP.

Offers of admission will not be considered final until the completion of the background check(s) with results that are deemed favorable by NSU Health Professions Division. Admission may be denied or rescinded, the student may be disciplined or dismissed, or his or her enrollment may be terminated if information received indicates that the student has provided false or misleading statements, has omitted required information, or in any way is unable to meet the requirements for completion of the program.

Following the initial Level I background check; matriculated students must complete a Level 2 background check for certain rotations. When necessary, students may be asked to provide a certification relating to any convictions, or plea(s) that are guilty or no-contest, to any criminal offense other than traffic violations.

Upon confirmation of your acceptance and payment of your deposit, you will receive information in your NSU email about creating your myRecordTracker account. All onboarding requirements – immunizations and other requirements- must be uploaded in myRecordTracker database for review and approval. 

The information regarding registration for the fall semester will not be available until the academic schedule is complete. Once the registration information is complete and you can register, the information will be provided in the New Student Orientation Canvas Course.

Required Devices

1. Laptop
   Students entering NSU’s Silverman College of Pharmacy must purchase any personal computer (PC) or Macintosh (Mac) laptop that meets the minimum system requirements. The PC or Mac laptop must have an integrated or external USB microphone and webcam. The minimum system requirements are to ensure the device is compatible with the Silverman College of Pharmacy’s testing platform, Examplify (ExamSoft testing application). Students are highly encouraged to purchase extended warranties or accidental coverage to protect the device.
2. Non-programable Scientific Calculator
   Students must have a personal, non-programable scientific calculator (e.g. TI-30Xa) for in-class and homework purposes. Calculators must be limited to a 2-line single display and must not have the ability to enter text. Personal non-programable scientific calculators are permitted on specific examinations. Virtual calculator is enabled in Examplify (ExamSoft testing application) for examinations.

3. Privacy Screen
   Privacy screens must have a maximum restricted viewing angle of 60 degrees (recommended 30 degrees) at the brightest setting and must be used during examinations and per instructor request.

Tablet
A tablet (e.g. iPad or Microsoft Surface tablet) is NOT required but you may wish to purchase one as a supplemental device. However, the student must have a PC or Mac which will be the primary device used for course exams in Examplify (ExamSoft testing application).

Yes. All Nova Southeastern University Health Professions Division (HPD) are required to maintain adequate health insurance. All entering students must have medical insurance before starting class whether it is through your own vendor or through the university. The Nova Southeastern Student Medical Insurance Plan will be effective August 1.

Every semester you are automatically enrolled in the NSU Student Medical Insurance Plan. Your student account is charged when you register for your courses. For any questions regarding the student health insurance please email studenthealth@nova.edu or call (954) 262-4060.

It is important you complete your insurance waiver if you wish to opt out of the school’s health insurance. If you are insured under another insurance plan, you will be required to complete an insurance waiver form (see next tab).

Students insured under another insurance plan must opt out of the NSU Student Health Insurance Plan each academic year by the given waiver deadline for their program. Waivers must be submitted by your program's deadline. Failure to meet this deadline will result in automatic enrollment in the Student Health Insurance Plan for the entire semester/term, and you will be responsible for payment. You will have another chance to opt out, subject to the next waiver deadline. Please note that an approved waiver is subject to audit for accuracy and does not guarantee final approval. 

In order to access the waiver, you must be registered and charged for student health insurance. Log in to NSU eBill to monitor your account. 

Complete the Online Insurance Waiver

For detailed information, including waiver deadlines; access to the online waiver; and NSU Student Health Insurance Plan features, costs, and more, students should visit the Bursar’s website.

Students entering the Doctor of Pharmacy Program must receive the required immunizations and have a complete physical examination. Only the NSU mandatory form is accepted. These requirements must be completed before the deadline set by the Office of Student Services. Failure to meet these requirements by the deadlines may result in a Registration Hold on your student account. Students accepted after August 1 must have these completed before orientation.

   By signing the Vaccination Acknowledgement Form, you acknowledge that NSU Silverman College of Pharmacy does not require you to take a COVID-19 immunization; however, you understand that the clinical site you are assigned may require the immunization. Failure to comply will delay program completion and graduation.
   
   By signing the VECHS Waiver Form, you authorize NSU Silverman College of Pharmacy to access and review your Florida and National criminal history record, which is a condition of admission.

2. Environmental Health Services (EHS) Self-Enrollment Training Modules
   Students are required to complete online course modules before the start of classes. These courses will help to ease your transition as a first-year pharmacy student. The EHS courses will be available through the learning portal known as CANVAS. You will receive an invitation in your email to the course.

4. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
   Initial BLS certification training is offered at the in-person New Student Orientation. You will receive an appointment for the training in NSU email. Your certification will be valid for two years. Recertification will be automatically scheduled for your 3rd year.

Professional Attire: button-up shirt/blouse, tie, slacks/pants or skirts, appropriate closed dress shoes.  You may also wear matching scrub sets (i.e. single solid color, no pattern); as well as NSU Silverman College of Pharmacy or NSU polo shirts and dress slacks.

Pharm.D. students MUST always wear their white coats while on campus and at experiential sites.

Professional dress is required. Ladies must wear sensible shoes as you will have to walk up and down the steps to the stage. Dress length must be appropriate. No miniskirts.

Bring your white coat! Do not wear your white coat until you are coated on stage. Make sure your coat is clean, unbuttoned, and folded over your arm.

Financial Aid is an important part of the admissions process. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and submit it online as soon as possible after October 1 to be considered for the maximum amount of financial aid.
