The faculty's research interest includes the design of controlled or targeted delivery systems for large molecular weight drugs to diseased organs or cells to achieve drug delivery with reduced side effects. One of his current research interests is to develop carriers for targeted delivery of thrombolytic agents using chemical conjugation to impart various large molecule constructs ‘on/off’ switches, i.e., turning drugs into a ‘macromolecular’ prodrug which can be activated by physiologic or by an external stimuli, or trigger. This concept has a broad applicability to many therapeutic challenges.
