The goal of this program (for initial consultant participants) is to address the knowledge and skills needs of Florida pharmacists aspiring to become consultant pharmacist practitioners as set forth in the Consultant Pharmacist Education Requirements within Florida Regulation 64B and Chapter 465 of the Florida Statutes. The program is designed to enhance and develop the skills and knowledge of Florida Pharmacy leadership. The conference can also be used for consultants towards renewal of their re-certification continuing pharmacy education requirement. *Note that this program should not be attended by licensed consultants twice within the same renewal period. It reflects in CE Broker as attending the same program twice and no credit will be given for the second program.

This is a Knowlegde-Based Program.
The Initial Consultant Pharmacist License Program is designed to prepare the pharmacist who is actively interested in advancing the profession of consultant pharmacy with the necessary professional and administrative responsibilities as outlined by the Board of Pharmacy in Rule 64B16 and Chapter 465. The forty hours of assessment under an approved preceptor is the responsibility of the practitioner and occurs separately from this program. For the consultant pharmacist seeking recertification, this program will serve as a review for the responsibilities as stated above and to offer the practitioner an opportunity to interact with experts within the various specialty fields of consultant pharmacy.

Prior to attending the September 2018 program, all initial consultant participants will need to complete the pre-course work as directed when registering for the course. This three hour assignment on Florida and Federal consulting rules will provide participants with the vital baseline information needed to attend the course. Ten percent of the questions on the final examination come from this pre-course component. The twelve hour live course is designed to prepare the new practitioner academically and to offer real world experiences from experts in the art of becoming a professional pharmacy consultant. The primary focus of the course will be on professional and administrative responsibilities, skills, and policy and procedures development. The coursework will be presented by Florida licensed consultant pharmacists who have extensive experience in the areas of; Law, ALF, Surgical Center, Preceptorship, Managed Care, Behavioral Health, LTC, ICF-MR, and Acute Care Institutional settings. Faculty will utilize lectures, panel discussions, and one-on-one talk centers to share knowledge and experiences. Successful candidates will pass a post test (70% or greater) given at the end of the program on Sunday, noon, September 16th, 2018. Post program participants will be expected to complete the "Consultant Pharmacist Application," perform the forty hours of assessment under an approved preceptor of their choice, and mail these documents and application fee to the Board of Pharmacy in order to be eligible to receive their consultant license.

The Initial Consultant program has been approved by the Florida Board of Pharmacy for the Initial Consultant Pharmacist certificate. This program has also been approved for Consultant Re-Certification (12 credit-hours) Note that credits earned for the Initial Consultant Pharmacist License certificate cannot be used for general credit. Credit for the certificate is specific for applying for the license.
